ISR Gardening finished 22 sod jobs between May and October 2026. Going by our own records, the typical job covered about 570 sq ft, often a front yard or a worn section rather than a whole lawn, and a sod-only job had a median price of about $2,350 before tax. Most customers said yes within two days of the quote.

Most sod pricing you find online is a price range. This page is different: every number below comes from jobs our crews actually finished this year in the GTA and York Region. It is a small sample, and we say so wherever it matters.

Where did ISR lay sod in 2026?

The 22 jobs were spread across 20 properties. Two properties had a second sod visit later in the year. Vaughan had the most jobs, followed by Markham.

When do GTA homeowners put down new sod?

Two months stood out. June and September each had seven jobs, which together is nearly two thirds of the year. Only one job fell in May and one in July, when summer heat makes new sod harder to keep alive. Counting by season, summer had 10 jobs and fall had 11.

That fits what we tell customers: early fall is a good time to sod in Ontario. The soil is still warm, the nights are cooler, and the new roots have several weeks to take hold before the ground freezes. This is one season of data, though, so treat the monthly split as what happened in 2026, not a rule.

How big is a typical sod job?

Smaller than most people expect. On the six jobs where the area was written down, the median was about 570 sq ft. The smallest was 325 sq ft and the largest was 1,358 sq ft, which covered a front yard, a backyard and a boulevard.

Many sod jobs are not a whole new lawn. They are a front yard, a strip of boulevard, or the part of the lawn that died under a tree or along a driveway. If only part of your lawn looks bad, you may not need to replace all of it.

How much does sod installation really cost per square foot?

Our published price is $2.50 to $3.50 per sq ft installed (see our full guide to the cost of sod in Ontario). On three jobs this year, our records let us separate the sod price from everything else. They came in at $2.80, $3.00 and $3.50 per sq ft, all inside that published range. The $3.00 job included stripping the old turf, grading for drainage and screened topsoil under the sod.

A fourth job, a repair of about 350 sq ft, worked out to roughly $4.29 per sq ft. Small jobs cost more per square foot because the truck, the delivery and the set-up cost the same whether we lay 300 sq ft or 1,300.

Four jobs is not enough for a true average, so read these as real examples, not a market rate. The price on your job depends on access, how much old turf and soil has to come out, and how far the sod has to be carried.

What does a whole sod job cost?

For the nine jobs that were sod work only, the median price was about $2,350 before tax. The range ran from $1,500 for a small repair to about $5,900 for a front-and-back lawn.

Once you add jobs that bundled sod with other work, the median for all 17 jobs with a recorded price was about $2,520. The largest of these, about $8,500, also included gravel, mulch, hedge planting and a garden cleanup.

  • Sod-only jobs: 9 jobs, median about $2,350, from $1,500 to about $5,900.
  • All jobs with a recorded price: 17 jobs, median about $2,520, from $1,000 to about $8,500.
  • All prices are before HST.

How fast does a sod job happen?

Quickly, once the price is agreed. On the 15 accepted quotes where we have both dates, the median time from quote to “yes” was two days, and six customers said yes the same day. Only one took longer than 10 days.

From the first call or form to the day the sod went down, the median was 24 days across 12 jobs. The quickest was 13 days and the longest was 35. Spring jobs took longer, at four to five weeks, because that is when everyone wants a new lawn at once. Fall jobs were mostly done within two to three weeks.

What else gets done on the same visit?

At least 9 of the 22 sod jobs, or 41%, were part of a bigger project. The extra work included:

  • planting and garden cleanups
  • dethatching and overseeding the rest of the lawn
  • aeration
  • mulch, gravel and river rock beds
  • interlock and patio repair

Doing the work in one project means one delivery and one set-up instead of two. Here is what is included in our sod installation service.

How did we get these numbers?

  • Sample: 22 completed sod jobs at 20 properties, May 22 to October 16, 2026.
  • Sources: our job records, written estimates and invoices, crew notes from each job, and enquiry dates from our lead log.
  • Prices: before HST. Where the final invoice did not separate the work, we used the accepted estimate.
  • Not counted: jobs still in progress, single-roll patches done during lawn care visits, and older jobs where the price was not recorded.
  • Small samples: lawn size is based on 6 jobs and price per square foot on 4 jobs. We show those as examples, not averages.
  • Not published yet: crew hours per 1,000 sq ft and how often sod quotes are accepted. Our 2026 records are not complete enough to give honest figures.
